Reconstruction of the Central Sewage Treatment Plant No. 1 (CTP-1)

Problem: Vodokanal treats and disposes of sludge at the Central Sewage Treatment Plant No. 1. Excess sludge is pumped to sludge sites located approximately 3 km south of CSF-1, near the city limits. The sludge is not stabilised, is in a biologically active state and poses a hazard. In addition, there is an odour problem. 

Project objective: Reconstruction of the Central Sewage Treatment Plant No. 1 to address wastewater quality and sludge management issues. 

Effect: 

The reconstruction of the Central Sewage Treatment Plant No. 1 will:

✅improve the environmental situation in Zaporizhzhia 

✅ Reduce methane emissions

✅process sludge to produce heat and electricity  

✅improve working conditions of the personnel servicing the Central Sewage Treatment Plant
