Construction of a shipping museum with a berth on Khortytsia Island

Problem: Lack of necessary conditions for conservation and restoration and proper preservation of ancient ships and other large-sized artefacts raised from the bottom of the Dnipro. They are currently stored in a temporary hangar.

 

Project Objective:  construction of a new museum of shipping with a pier with restoration workshops and exhibition halls, taking into account the existing large-sized museum objects (boats) of the Khortytsia National Reserve.

 

Effect:

✅ Preservation of cultural heritage sites of Ukraine

✅ Raising the cultural level of the population, promoting patriotic education and popularisation of knowledge of culture and technology 

✅ Possibility to open excursion services for the museum (before the war, visits to tourist sites in Zaporizhzhia reached 250 thousand people a year)

✅ Increase in the number of jobs and development of tourist infrastructure on Khortytsia Island 

Needs:

➡️ Financial: allocation of funds for the construction of a museum of navigation and a berth on Khortytsia Island, according to the developed estimate

➡️ Technical: building materials and equipment for the construction of the museum and the berth

➡️ Expert: consultations with historians, archaeologists and shipping experts to develop the museum concept and exposition; construction supervision and quality control by experts

Total project cost: EUR 8.2 million.
